As part of this year’s conference of the British Association of Applied Linguistics at the Queen’s University in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Melanie Fleischhacker and Eva-Maria Graf delivered a lecture titled Are Coaching Training Manuals Asking the “Right” Questions? – Linguistc Research on Questioning Practices in Coaching and its Practical Implications. Within the framework of their presentation they especially dealt with helping professions and their tasks, primarily in connection with linguistics and conversation analysis and how change and effectiveness manifest and become perceivable. After shortly picking up on coaching in practice and research, in which they explained that questions are central to helping professions but still explored insufficiently, they introduced the DACH project Questioning Sequences in Coaching and presented the goals, typologies of questions and questioning sequences, as well es first results from the project teams in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland.
